Give Your Life Away: Invisible Girl Project
GIVE YOUR LIFE AWAY was commissioned by Sevenly and created by an amazingly talented artist. About 6’ x 6’ in size, the framed original has hung in the Sevenly home office for years, inspiring all those who saw it to take on the bold challenge of giving our lives away, in service to God and in service to others. It’s an example of the best of the Cause Art movement that Sevenly began. People who saw it entered into conversations about what it means, and why it matters.
In going back to the roots of Sevenly, the founders were inspired to bring this art to life in a great new collection. And we had one person’s story in mind as we made that choice – a person who has exemplified to us what it is to GIVE YOUR LIFE AWAY.
Jill McElya learned how to fight for justice at an early age from her mother and her father, who was a Marine. She became a successful trial lawyer and was on a fast-track legal career path. Along the way, she learned about the need for people to engage with corrupt legal systems. She changed course and opted to practice law with an international human rights organization, and eventually took an assignment in India.
While in India, Jill and her husband Brad, a pharmacist, became exposed to the crisis of gendercide – the killing of babies because of their sex. Girls were being killed in great number simply because they were girls. Jill and Brad began to fight back. Today their non-profit, Invisible Girl Project, is leading the charge to end this injustice in India.
So, we’re launching this collection with a Limited Edition release of the GIVE YOUR LIFE AWAY shirt in two designs that will give $7 to Jill’s mission, in part to honor the work and epic spirit of Jill and her husband Brad. They remind us what it is to give our lives away for worthy causes.
After the Limited Edition designs are retired forever, we’ll continue to sell other designs in the GIVE YOUR LIFE AWAY collection that will donate 7% to Invisible Girl Project and other social justice initiatives to fulfill a pledge from Sevenly to further the fight against social injustices like gendercide.
