Happy + Co : Interior Design with People In Mind

Happy + Co was founded by Penny Capper and Gary Elton, two passionate people with a love for interior design, and world culture. Upon venturing out on their own to create a new interior business, they were disappointed to find a lack of items that fit their taste. That's when they decided to create Happy + Co., which not only provides beautiful home decor and accessories, but also ethical and dignified job opportunities to multiple communities around the world.

The company was founded with a strong value in getting to know the artisans involved in supplying and creating the brand's products. "We visit them regularly to ensure the product we create are of the highest quality, and are made responsibly by happy people. We believe every business should be socially responsible."

Not only do they ensure the fair treatment, and happiness of their suppliers, they also invest 10% of their profits to their Happy + Co. Farm, based in Cambodia.

In 2014, Gary Elton established the Happy + Co. Farm in the Cambodian province of Siem Reap. He had been looking for ways to create employment opportunities to young people whose employment options were limited in a country that relied heavily on imports. Because of the country's extensive agricultural knowledge, the building of a farm seemed like the perfect way to ethically employ the community.

After much trial and error, the farm now operates completely free of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. The team is currently building greenhouses to allow for year-round harvest, and ongoing work for the youth and families of the area. Today, the farm employs over 40 team members who plant, harvest, and grow produce for their community.

Happy + Co.'s model not only provides ethically made home goods and accessories, they are setting the bar high for brands to give back in more than just one way. We admire their hard work in building the Happy + Co. Farm and are excited to see how the project grows throughout the next few years, employing more of the community, and leaving more and more people happy. :)
