A Moving Personal Appeal from a Sevenly Angel Investor

A Moving Personal Appeal from a Sevenly Angel Investor

Angel Investors are those who provide seed funding to help start an enterprise that they believe is worthy of the risk. The name is sometimes a misnomer. Angel Investors do not always act like angels.

And it's tough to be an Angel Investor, because it's not easy for start-ups to survive and thrive.

More than anyone else in the world, Keith Bitting has been an Angel Investor for Sevenly, in every sense of the world.  Keith not only invested in Sevenly, he has served as a volunteer in almost every capacity, including years of service as a member of the Board of Directors.

Never did a Sevenly Board Meeting commence without Keith praying for God's help and guidance.

Never did Keith miss an opportunity to remind us that at the core of all we do at Sevenly is the mission "to serve widows and orphans" (James 1:27).

Never did a challenge present itself (and they did), when Keith did not challenge us to stay the course and to deliver our brand's promise, even when it seemed we were climbing a mountain.

He challenged us to pour ourselves out, even at great risk -- to "love God with our whole body, mind, soul and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves."  That passage from the Gospel (Matthew 22:37-39) is printed in the neck label of every shirt as a reminder of why we do what we do.

I remember going to see Keith get married to his beautiful wife Heewon, in a traditional Korean wedding north of Seoul, near the North Korean border, in the town that will host the Olympics this month.  What a time of beauty and goodness it was.

Not long thereafter, Keith was diagnosed with a very, very rare kind of Sarcoma cancer.  A few people in a million encounter it. The journey for Keith and his bride, especially in the past year, has been unthinkably hard -- emotionally, physically and financially demanding.

But Keith's spiritual strength, and joy and gratitude in the midst of suffering, have inspired all of us!  He makes us better. We want to share this glimpse of him with you, and invite you to post a word of encouragement to him, to share with others, to share with us in carrying his burden.

C. S. Lewis famously wrote: "Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in.  Aim at earth and you get neither."  So it is with our friend and Sevenly angel, Keith Bitting.  So it is with us.
