How To Make Drinking Water Actually Enjoyable (For Those Like Myself Who Struggle)

Tips from a dehydrated girl on how to get that water intake in

You hear it, I hear it. "Make sure you drink your water!" "Stay hydrated!" But coming from someone who truly forgets that it's essential to drink water, it can be hard to get your daily intake (let alone any) into your system sometimes. What I've found to help me a lot lately is (yes, giving in and buying a Stanley cup but also) finding ways to make my water more enjoyable to drink.

MAKE FRUIT-INFUSED WATER

There's just something a little boujée when you go into a restaurant or hotel and they serve you fruit-infused water vs. plain water. And I'm so here for it. This is super easy to do at home and perfect for other lazy people, like myself. Just pick out your favorite fruit at the grocery store - I suggest your favorite combo of strawberries, blueberries, lemon, basil, mint, oranges, etc. Grab a pitcher, fill it up with water, then slice up your fruit and just drop it in. Let it sit for 10 minutes or the whole day, and find yourself going to get more water than you ever could imagine.

TRY WATER FLAVORING DROPS

These are the closest thing to making water taste like juice, or well anything other than water. Easy, compact and ready to bring with you on-the-go - they help make plain water taste a little more exciting. Keep in mind, the added flavor may be natural or artificial or even include other ingredients like sweeteners or vitamins. But I justify the added sugars by telling myself it's better than drinking soda, and still a healthier alternative. Some brands I always reach for at the store are: MiO, Crystal Light, and Stur.

SPARKLING WATER

This may be a harder to consume a lot of, but sparkling water's definitely a good option when you want to switch things up. The first time I tried it, I hated it. I didn't understand the carbonation or why a sip of it would feel like I'm swallowing Sprite, but without the delicious taste. I've learned to like it though and it's just as hydrating as regular water. Some of my favorite brands are: Spindrift, Hint, La Croix, and AHA.

LEMON PERFECT IYKYK

Not sure if you've heard or seen this brand around your stores, but it's easily become one of my top water solutions. Lemon Perfect is naturally refreshing, zero sugar cold-pressed lemon water with hydrating electrolytes and essential antioxidants. And it doesn't hurt that they don't have a bad flavor. They range from Dragon Fruit Mango, Just Lemon, Peach Raspberry to Blueberry Acaí. My go-to is the Pineapple Coconut. It tastes like a really, really, watered down Pina Colada. But in a good way.

JUST DO IT GET A STANLEY (OR A WATER JUG)

It's been totally worth the investment for me. I realized that I drink more water at restaurants because of how I like my water. I prefer it to be super cold with a lot of ice. So how do you maintain that at home without it melting in seconds? Get a good quality, insulated cup. Preferably, in your favorite color. Filling that up everyday and dropping in a lemon slice has done more wonders for me than what you'd probably think. Yes, Stanley's may be overrated but if you don't want to budge, find your own version of an insulated cup or water jug that gets you just excited as an influencer to drink from it.

BOOK MORE WORKOUT CLASSES

I'll find myself not drinking water throughout the whole day - but once you put me into a workout class and I'm sweating my ass off - I never grab for something more than my Stanley. There's nothing like dying from a workout (or needing an excuse to pause your workout) and get that nice cold chugs of water to bring you back to life. So maybe try busting a sweat more often, and you'll find yourself getting that water intake up. It's a win-win. You burn calories and you drink more water. Your healthiest and best version of you would be so proud.
