Female Artists on the Rise

Female Artists on the Rise

Whether you’re an aspiring artist yourself, or you’re just searching for your next favorite Spotify album or Netflix Special, these four female artists’ stories are sure to inspire you.

They’ve all been on my list of favorites for some time now. I’ve been introduced to them through friends, discovered them myself, or they were brought to my attention by my trusty companion, the algorithm, but one way or another they’ve found me and impacted my life. While their talent alone is impressive, I’m also amazed by how young they became successful.

Here are four female artists who are taking over:

Taylor Tomlinson

Age: 28

Taylor Tomlinson started at age 16 in a Christian comedy class with her Dad and has grown to become one of the youngest touring headliners on the comedy scene (Forbes 2019).

She’s one of my personal favorites–I’ve seen her twice now live and both times were so impressive. What I love about Taylor is how authentic she is. She uses hilarious comparisons to talk about things everyone can relate to; relationships, dealing with mental health, therapy, and family. Her material targets millennials but is palatable for all ages and genders.

I am deeply inspired by her work ethic, the dedication she has to her career, and the sacrifices she’s made for it. At only 28 years old, she’s absolutely killing it!

Taylor Tomlinson’s Netflix specials:

  • Quarter Life Crisis (2020)

  • Look at You (2022)

Rosebud Baker

Age: 37

She was selected as the New Face of Comedy at the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in 2018 and for good reason (@rosebudbaker).

A brilliant writer and comedian, she’s definitely not for the faint of heart. Rosebud finds humor in life’s darkest moments- the death of a sibling, domestic abuse, and alcoholism. Her writing and wit are so sharp yet her appearance is so sweet and innocent.

Rosebud has since toured with some of the biggest names in comedy including Michael Che, Amy Schumer, and Sarah Silverman (@rosebudbaker).

If you have a dark sense of humor, you’ll absolutely love her!

Age: 25

One of my absolute favorite female R & B singers. Spotify calls her ‘one of the most acclaimed R&B artists since 2016.’ H.E.R is an acronym for ‘Having Everything Revealed’ (Spotify). This acronym makes a lot of sense, given how emotionally vulnerable her lyrics are. If you’re going through a breakup or a rough patch in a relationship I highly recommend ‘Hard Place.’ I’m not the only one who recommends it. It won Song of the Year and Record of the Year at the Grammy’s in 2021 (Wikipedia).

A huge success at only 25 years old, H.E.R has already won four Grammys (Spotify) and won Song of the Year for I Can’t Breathe in 2020 and Fight For You in 2021 (Spotify).

  • I Used to Know HER (2019)

  • Back of My Mind (2021)

Tate McRae

Age: 19

A Canadian singer/ songwriter and actress who started as a dancer, Tate’s music career took off after going viral on YouTube and TikTok for her song “One Day” (Wikipedia). She’s been featured in Forbes 30 Under 30, and her second EP, Too Young to Be Sad (2021) was the most streamed female EP of 2021 on Spotify. (Wikipedia).

Tate McRae really has the perfect lyrics to explain how it feels to deal with heartbreak as well as become an adult. I recommend her song “slower”, it’s gotten me through multiple breakups at this point. “Chaotic” is also a good choice if you’re going through a coming-of-age struggle.

  • I Used to Think I Could Fly (2022)

These female artists have already achieved greatness at such a young age and are about to accomplish so much more.
