Let's Talk About Jeremy Scott Moschino

The 2010s belonged to Jeremy Scott. The designer brought camp to the masses in a way very few designers are able to do. (If you saw the 2019 Met Gala, you already know.)

The success of his namesake label along with the worldwide success of his adidas partnerships presumably caught the eye of Moschino and it was a match made in heaven.

Scott's first collection at Moschino was pure joy — McDonald's-inspired suiting and accessories, a Spongebob collab, gowns inspired by Ramen noodles, and a finale gown covered in nutrition facts labels.

After what many would consider a favorable run, Scott has announced his departure from Moschino in a statement which reads, “These past 10 years at Moschino have been a wonderful celebration of creativity and imagination. I am so proud of the legacy I am leaving behind. I would like to thank Massimo Ferretti for the honor of leading this iconic house. I would also like to thank all my fans around the world who celebrated me, my collections, and my vision, for without you none of this would be possible.”

The split seems amicable and why wouldn't it be? Scott never misses. Here's a rundown of some of his most celebrated runway moments at the house.

The Hershey Bar Mermaid Gown, 2014

The Barbie-Themed Collection, 2015

The Dry Cleaning Dress, 2017

Tracee Ellis Ross' Golden Frame Met Gala Look, 2019

90's Bedsheet Gowns, 2022

The rumor mill is already turning with fashion insiders speculating on Scott's next move and if this is true it will be HUGE. TikTok trend forecaster and fashion commentator Oldloserinbrooklyn cited an interview with Karl Lagerfeld where he name drops Jeremy Scott as the only designer who could take over Chanel after him. If you recall some of Lagerfeld's most memorable moments, they most certainly had an element of camp. (The grocery store collection in Fall 2014 is an excellent example.)

Jeremy would bring life to Chanel, so fingers crossed that this is true. Who then would take over Moschino? The streets are saying former Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele is next at bat.
